Good business and jobs news from JCB, Dyson, Honda and Jaguar Land Rover

It’s been a strong few days for the UK engineering industry, with positive news announcements from JCB, Dyson, Honda and Jaguar Land Rover.

JCB graduate scheme expands

JCB has stated that it is increasing the number of graduate jobs it offers. It will now be taking on 30 graduates per year in manufacturing, powertrain, business and purchasing roles. Application details for its 2013 graduate entry will be released in the next few weeks. The company also recruits for year in industry placements.

Dyson announces record profit for 2011

Graduate employer Dyson has just reported that its turnover reached £1 billion in 2011, with record profits of £306 million. Dyson announced earlier in the year that it is recruiting an extra 150 graduates, as reported by TARGETjobs. James Dyson commented, ‘Our new machines have been particularly well received by the Americans and the Japanese. It is exciting to be part of our growing team of engineers and scientists and it is stimulating to partner with some of the UK’s best universities to ensure we have high technology for the next twenty five years.’ As well as its successes in America and Japan, Dyson will launch in China on 1 November, and states that in the UK it sold on average one vacuum cleaner every 30 seconds in 2011.

Honda and Jaguar Land Rover invest in UK manufacturing

Honda announced yesterday that it is investing £267 million in manufacturing at its Swindon plant, its largest investment in ten years. The company hopes to double its production from 2011 to 2012, and has already recruited 500 extra staff to help it do so. The investment is not expected to affect graduate recruitment numbers, but is still a good sign of health for UK automotive manufacturing.
Meanwhile Jaguar Land Rover has reported that it is to invest £370 million to upgrade its UK manufacturing facilities to increase productivity before the launch of its new Range Rover model.
