Bentley sales up 32% worldwide as automotive industry continues to grow

More good news for graduates considering careers in the automotive industry: Bentley has reported a 32% increase in sales worldwide in its half-year results just released. Meanwhile, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) announced yesterday that new car registrations in the UK rose 3.5% in June, the fourth successive month of growth.

Bentley’s growth in China was particularly strong, up 55.7%, representing 1,059 cars delivered to customers. US sales also showed a major increase, up 25.7% – and, at 1,140 cars delivered to customers, the country was Bentley’s biggest market. Sales in Europe were up 22.9% (607 deliveries) and in the UK were up 4.5% (557 deliveries).

The luxury car-maker is based in Crewe, where it employs just under 4,000 people. It is the third largest investor in R&D in the UK automotive industry. Bentley runs a graduate scheme with options to work in a variety of engineering, business and finance departments.

The results are the latest in a string of good news for the UK automotive industry, with Jaguar Land Rover recently announcing soaring sales and profits, mass-market brands expanding their UK operations and luxury car-makers posting strong financial results.
