BP increases UK graduate recruitment by 50%

BP is increasing its graduate recruitment by 50%, creating nearly 250 vacancies annually. The company, one of the UK’s biggest graduate recruiters, is creating these positions in addition to its 130 summer and one-year paid internships.

Emma Judge, BP’s head of UK graduate recruitment, put the company’s significant rise in vacancies down to ‘an increase in demand from our business units to recruit the brightest young minds in the UK.’ She added: ‘2011 was one of the strongest years in our history in terms of accessing new areas for exploration; to ensure we maximise our return, we need more young talent.’

The oil and gas company’s graduate vacancies have steadily increased in recent years, and new positions will be available across multiple departments. Candidates should be aware, however, that applications are currently closed and will re-open in September for 2013.

The announcement follows last week’s prediction that graduate vacancies are set to rise across engineering and IT sectors in 2012, according to the AGR Graduate Recruitment Survey. This has been attributed to a feeling of optimism across the industries, with progress expected in the nuclear power and renewable energy sectors in particular.
