PwC London office to run on local chip fat

Graduates who secure jobs or internships at PwC's new London Southbank office will find themselves in a building rated 'outstanding' by BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) for its environmental performance and design. It will run on low carbon energy – recycled cooking oil from bars, restaurants and businesses in the city centre.
Over 45,000 litres of cooking oil will be collected each week by Arrow Oil, transported to a local refinery, recycled and then delivered to PwC. The oil will fire two generators, creating 25% of the electricity and 20% of the heating and cooling for the new office.
As the oil will be collected from establishments within the M25 its carbon footprint will be low.
Jon Barnes, head of building and facilities services at PwC, commented, 'When you think of green technologies you don’t think of used oil from a kitchen but the reality is these technologies offered us a real low carbon alternative to traditional fuel.'
PwC aims to reduce its energy usage per square metre of office space by 25% by 2012. So far, it has achieved a 16% reduction.
Over 6,000 PwC employees will move to the new office, 7 More London, this year.
